OSGOOD SCHLATTERS DISEASE
“My name is Luke P and I am nearly 13 years old. About 18 months ago, I noticed a lump had suddenly appeared on my left knee. As I am a keen sportsman, representing my school in rugby, cross-country, athletics and also playing Sunday League football, it was upsetting when after sport, the lump was very painful. I found difficulty in running, twisting and I suffered greater pain when pressure was applied.
After ignoring the lump until it became too painful I went to the casualty department of my local hospital, the doctor there, after an X-ray, put my leg in plaster. One week later a specialist removed the plaster and said I would “grow out” of the problem, which he said was ‘Osgood Schlatters Disease’.
After this it was still very painful so I returned to the doctor and he gave me some anti-inflammatory tablets, which I took 4 times a day. The tablets didn’t work and this is when we turned to acupuncture. After having it 4 or 5 times I could really feel the difference.
I have now had acupuncture 7 or 8 times and I am playing football with confidence and I hardly suffer pain. In my opinion acupuncture so far has improved my injury by 70%”.
